Sell your Toyota: what counts with hybrids, all-wheel drive and older models

If you want to sell your Toyota, you often drive a hybrid: according to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), 235’687 Toyota passenger cars were in the Swiss vehicle register on September 30, 2025, 94’312 of them with a gasoline hybrid drive. That is 40 percent of the brand’s cars on the road and around a quarter of all gasoline hybrids without a plug in the country.

For the sale, this means: besides the model year and mileage, the hybrid system and its records are of interest. Toyota covers the hybrid components from the factory for five years or 100’000 kilometers. After that, every service with a passed hybrid check at a Toyota partner extends the cover until the next scheduled service, according to toyota.ch up to a maximum of 15 years or 250’000 kilometers. This cover is tied to the vehicle and passes to the new registered keeper when the car is sold. A properly kept service booklet is therefore more than a formality with a Toyota.

The age of the cars on the road is also striking: among passenger cars aged 20 to 29 years, Toyota is the second most common brand after VW, with 29’375 vehicles. A Corolla, RAV4 or Land Cruiser with many years under its belt is therefore nothing unusual, and we buy it just as we would a two-year-old Yaris Cross with AWD-i all-wheel drive. What matters is that you state the drive, condition and service history precisely – your offer is based on them.

How we buy your Toyota in four steps

  1. 1

Enter your vehicle details in our online form. Your advantage: with just a few details, you get a very accurate initial offer (in practice often accurate to within +/- 1’000 CHF), because we use real market data.

  2. 2

Send photos & vehicle registration document

Send us photos of your car and your vehicle registration document conveniently online. This allows a precise assessment without you losing time on appointments.

  3. 3

    Get a guaranteed offer

Based on your photos, you receive a firm, guaranteed offer – conveniently online, with no on-site viewing appointments. No renegotiation, 100% transparent.

  4. 4

    Vehicle handover & payment

On the day of the handover, we compare the Toyota with what you stated and photographed; with a hybrid, we also take a look at the service booklet and the hybrid check report, if you have one. Give us the spare key and, for a plug-in hybrid or electric model, the charging cables. If everything matches, we pay the purchase price by instant bank transfer and then deregister the car at the road traffic office.

How you get your money

Right at handover, with no waiting.

Instant bank transfer Recommended

We transfer the purchase price during the handover itself. The money is usually in your account within seconds, secure and traceable.

Cash payment

For smaller amounts, for example for export vehicles, we can also pay in cash on request.

Drive, all-wheel drive, service booklet: what your Toyota’s value is measured by

The drive. Today, toyota.ch lists almost only electrified passenger cars: the Aygo X, Yaris, Yaris Cross, Corolla and Corolla Cross as hybrids, the C-HR and RAV4 as hybrids or plug-in hybrids, the Prius as a plug-in hybrid, plus electric models such as the bZ4X and Urban Cruiser. Used cars add gasoline and diesel models from earlier years, and each of these drives is valued differently. So state the engine exactly as it appears in your documents.

Front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The Yaris Cross, Corolla Cross, C-HR and RAV4 are available with front-wheel drive or with all-wheel drive, which Toyota calls AWD-i on the Yaris Cross and the Corolla Cross, for example; the bZ4X and Urban Cruiser are also available in both versions. In Switzerland, this is no minor point: according to auto-schweiz, half of all new passenger cars had all-wheel drive in 2025 (50.6 percent).

Service and warranty. According to toyota.ch, the factory warranty lasts three years or 100’000 kilometers. After that, the service-activated Relax Garantie counts; according to Toyota, it can also be reactivated if a service was skipped or not carried out by a Toyota partner. Note the date, mileage and garage of the last service. You’ll find the general value factors, from age to condition, in our guide to used car value.

What to have ready for your Toyota

  • Vehicle registration document and exact model designation, for example Yaris Cross Hybrid AWD-i
  • Drive: hybrid, plug-in hybrid, gasoline, diesel or electric
  • Service booklet with the date and mileage of the last service
  • Hybrid or battery check report, if available
  • Charging cables for plug-in hybrids and electric models, spare key, winter wheels
  • Known damage and defects, described and photographed

Toyota in Switzerland: 6th place on the road and in new cars

With 235’687 passenger cars, Toyota accounts for 4.9 percent of the Swiss vehicle stock (FSO, as of September 30, 2025). That means 6th place behind VW, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and Skoda and first place among the Japanese brands. The number is growing: in 2021, the FSO counted 223’730 Toyotas.

For new registrations in 2025, auto-schweiz reports 12’396 Toyotas, which amounts to a 5.3 percent market share and also 6th place. The Yaris ranked 10th among all models with 3’313 vehicles; at Toyota, it is followed by the Corolla (2’190), Yaris Cross (1’907) and RAV4 (1’337). In the FSO statistics, 78 percent of new Toyotas were hybrids or plug-in hybrids.

Older Toyotas with high mileage or without a valid MFK (vehicle inspection) often find buyers abroad. One reason: according to Toyota, it sells in over 170 countries and regions, so the brand and its technology are known almost everywhere. Our page on car export from Switzerland shows how such a sale works.

What determines the value of your car?

The most important factors in a vehicle valuation:

  • Make & model

Premium brands hold their value better

  • Mileage

    The lower, the more valuable

  • Features & engine

High-end features and a powerful engine increase the value

  • Technical condition

Body, engine and transmission are assessed individually

Questions and answers about selling your Toyota

Does the Toyota Relax Garantie pass to the new registered keeper when I sell?

Yes. According to toyota.ch, the Relax Garantie is tied to the vehicle and remains in place at no extra cost when the owner changes. The warranty always runs until the next scheduled service and is extended with every service at an official Toyota partner, up to a maximum of 15 years after first registration or 250’000 kilometers. For your offer, it helps if you state the date and mileage of the last service and photograph the corresponding page in the service booklet.

Do I have to have the hybrid battery checked before selling?

No, it isn’t a condition for our offer. If a hybrid check was carried out during a service at a Toyota partner, attach the report: Toyota ties the extended cover for the battery, inverter and other hybrid components to this check, up to a maximum of 15 years or 250’000 kilometers. Without a report, we value your Toyota hybrid based on its model year, mileage, service records and condition.

Can an older Toyota with over 200’000 kilometers or without an MFK still be sold?

Yes. According to the FSO, one in eight Toyotas on Swiss roads is 20 to 29 years old; we buy such cars just as we buy young used cars. A Toyota with an expired MFK, engine damage or accident damage is also welcome. It doesn’t even have to run anymore: we clarify how the handover works with you once you have accepted our offer. We have a separate article on the due inspection: Selling without MFK.

Can I sell a leased Toyota?

Yes, even during the term. Until the lease is settled, the car belongs to the leasing company, so we need its name and the settlement amount. If our price is higher than this amount, the rest is paid out to you at the handover. On toyota.ch, Toyota shows a lease payment for its models and mentions mandatory fully comprehensive insurance in the conditions. Our page on selling a leased car explains this step by step.

How much is my Toyota still worth?

A reliable figure is only possible with your data. The decisive factors are the model and model year, mileage, drive (hybrid, plug-in hybrid, gasoline, diesel), front-wheel or all-wheel drive, trim such as GR Sport, as well as condition and service records. Enter these details in the form and upload pictures: we use them to calculate a price that we stand by as long as the car matches your description. It costs nothing and doesn’t commit you to anything.

How do I sell a Toyota plug-in hybrid or a bZ4X?

Like any other Toyota, with two additions: state which charging cables are included, and attach a battery report if you have one. For fully electric models, Toyota states a battery warranty of up to ten years or one million kilometers, provided the Battery Health Check is passed at the service; for hybrids and plug-in hybrids, up to 15 years or 250’000 kilometers. Our electric car guide covers further points that buyers of EVs pay attention to.
