In Switzerland, to sell your Volvo often means selling a diesel or a plug-in hybrid. According to the Federal Statistical Office, 40.5 percent of all Volvos on the road have a diesel engine, including diesel hybrids; among the 25 largest brands, only BMW is higher. And with 20’640 plug-in hybrids, Volvo has the second most in the country after BMW. On top of that, there are more and more electric models such as the EX30.
Exactly which drive is under the hood is therefore the first thing we need to know. The second concerns Volvo Swiss Premium, the service and warranty package that Volvo Car Schweiz includes in the purchase price for buyers of new cars in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. If any of it is still running, that belongs in the valuation. Both help determine which cars we compare your Volvo with.
A lookup on the Volvo Car Schweiz website shows what still applies: you enter the chassis number (VIN), which is in field 23 of the vehicle registration document, and see whether your Volvo still has free servicing, a vehicle warranty or extended Volvo Assistance. Send us the result along with the photos. From this and your details on model, mileage and condition, we create a firm offer.
Enter your vehicle details now and get an offer right away.

Plus every other Volvo, from the 240 to the S90, even with very high mileage.
Enter your vehicle details in our online form. Your advantage: with just a few details, you get a very accurate initial offer (in practice often accurate to within +/- 1’000 CHF), because we use real market data.
Send us photos of your car and your vehicle registration document conveniently online. This allows a precise assessment without you losing time on appointments.
Based on your photos, you receive a firm, guaranteed offer – conveniently online, with no on-site viewing appointments. No renegotiation, 100% transparent.
On the day of the handover, you need the vehicle registration document, all keys and, if you have one, the service booklet. Newer Volvos don’t have one anymore; in that case, an extract of the service history is enough. For a plug-in hybrid or electric model, the charging cables are included. If the car and the description match, we pay for the Volvo by instant bank transfer. We then take care of the deregistration at the road traffic office.
Right at handover, with no waiting.
We transfer the purchase price during the handover itself. The money is usually in your account within seconds, secure and traceable.
For smaller amounts, for example for export vehicles, we can also pay in cash on request.
Drive. With Volvo, the drive is in the name of the version. Volvo Car Schweiz offers the current XC60 Plug-in Hybrid as T6 AWD and T8 AWD; AWD stands for all-wheel drive. Older models carry other abbreviations. So copy the designation character by character from the vehicle registration document and add whether your Volvo runs on diesel or gasoline, as a plug-in hybrid or fully electric.
Volvo Swiss Premium. The package includes free servicing for ten years or 150’000 kilometers, a vehicle warranty of up to five years or 150’000 kilometers and wear-and-tear cover for three years, or four years for fully electric models; in each case, whichever comes first applies. Not covered are, among other things, damage caused by technical modifications to the vehicle or by motorsport competitions.
Service history. Newer Volvos no longer have a printed service and warranty booklet. You can see the history in the Volvo Cars app if the car is paired with it, or you can get it from a Volvo partner. How much weight it carries is shown by Volvo Selekt, the brand’s used car program: it only accepts cars under five years old with a maximum of 150’000 kilometers, a complete service history and exclusively genuine Volvo parts.

According to the FSO, 136’985 Volvos were registered in Switzerland on the reference date, September 30, 2025: 2.8 percent of all passenger cars and twelfth place among the brands. 10’961 of them were fully electric. For new cars, Volvo reached 8’598 registrations and a 3.7 percent market share in 2025, according to auto-schweiz, after 9’653 the year before.
The most registered Volvo in 2025 was the XC60 with 2’619 units, ahead of the electric EX30 (2’123), the XC40 (1’148) and the XC90 (1’035); a year earlier, the EX30 had still been in the lead. Over the eleven years from 2015 to 2025, the XC60 is clearly ahead with 27’824 new registrations, ahead of the XC40 and XC90; among the station wagons, the V60 leads with 10’200. Many Volvos are driven for a long time: 29’613 of the brand’s cars are between ten and 14 years old. For a Volvo with very high mileage, it’s worth taking a look at Sell a high-mileage car.

Volvo Car Schweiz counts the periods from the first registration and offers buyers of used cars their own lookup: with the chassis number, they can see whether their Volvo still has free servicing, a vehicle warranty or extended Volvo Assistance. Do this lookup before the sale and send us the result; then both sides know what is still covered. The servicing runs for a maximum of ten years or 150’000 kilometers, the warranty for a maximum of five years or 150’000 kilometers.
Not with newer models, because according to Volvo Car Schweiz they no longer have a printed service and warranty booklet at all. You can see the service history in the Volvo Cars app if your car is paired with it; otherwise, you can get it from a Volvo partner. For older Volvos whose booklet has been lost, the garage invoices help. Tell us what is available, and mention any gaps right away.
The high-voltage battery is what matters. For new cars from Swiss and Liechtenstein dealers, it is guaranteed for eight years or 160’000 kilometers, for electric models just as for plug-in hybrids. So tell us the first registration and mileage, and have the charging cables ready for the handover. You’ll find tips on the battery, charging accessories and range in the article Selling an electric car.
Little for our offer: we also buy imported Volvos. However, Volvo Swiss Premium is only available for new cars sold by dealers in Switzerland and Liechtenstein; if your car was bought new abroad, it lacks this package. So tell us where and when it was first registered. Volvo’s breakdown and accident assistance still applies: every Volvo with a Swiss or Liechtenstein registration has it free of charge for life.
Yes. Among the cars on Swiss roads, 10’738 Volvos are between 20 and 29 years old, and 3’576 are 30 or older (FSO 2025). With such cars, we look particularly at rust, maintenance and the last MFK. Describe the condition openly, send photos of the underbody, wheel arches and engine compartment, and list the repairs of recent years. What else applies to old cars, including veteran status, is explained under Sell an old car.
A figure without knowing your car would be a guess. It depends on the model, drive, first registration, mileage and condition, plus the service history and what is still running from Swiss Premium. Fill in the form and send photos; we’ll make you a firm offer from that. The page How much is my car worth? describes the criteria used in the valuation.
