The new car will be delivered next week, the move abroad is fixed, the lease is running out or the notice for the MFK (vehicle inspection) is in the mailbox: if you have to sell your car fast, you usually have a date that can’t be moved. Then the last franc matters less than whether the sale is properly completed by that day.
Speed starts with you, in three places. First, the documents: the vehicle registration document, the service booklet and all keys are ready, and the pictures are taken; which shots are needed is explained in the guide Photographing your car for sale. Second, the price: you know roughly what your car is worth and can assess an offer without hesitating for long. Third, the way you sell: it has to fit your deadline.
In a private sale, you only partly set the pace. You write the listing, answer inquiries, show the car, go along on test drives and negotiate; the buyer then first has to take out insurance before the road traffic office registers the car in their name. According to the TCS, a quick sale requires that you approach it professionally and reach as many interested buyers as possible. A sought-after car at a fair market price quickly finds a buyer, but nobody can promise you that. If you only have a week, a buyer who decides based on details and photos is the more predictable route.
Enter your vehicle details now and get an offer right away.
Request an offerThe process is the same in all these cases; with a lease or an inheritance, additional papers are needed.
Enter your vehicle details in our online form. Your advantage: with just a few details, you get a very accurate initial offer (in practice often accurate to within +/- 1’000 CHF), because we use real market data.
Send us photos of your car and your vehicle registration document conveniently online. This allows a precise assessment without you losing time on appointments.
Based on your photos, you receive a firm, guaranteed offer – conveniently online, with no on-site viewing appointments. No renegotiation, 100% transparent.
We arrange the handover appointment with you as soon as you have accepted; there are usually 24 to 48 hours between the offer and the handover. The appointment itself goes quickly if the vehicle registration document and all keys are ready: a quick comparison with your photos, signatures on the sales contract, payment by instant bank transfer; a smaller amount can be paid in cash on request. You check that the money has been credited in your e-banking, and we then deregister the car at the road traffic office.
Right at handover, with no waiting.
We transfer the purchase price during the handover itself. The money is usually in your account within seconds, secure and traceable.
For smaller amounts, for example for export vehicles, we can also pay in cash on request.
Time pressure is exactly what fraudsters count on. Swiss Crime Prevention (SCP) describes buyers who supposedly live abroad, buy the car unseen and send a forged payment receipt, who seem to transfer too much and ask for the difference back, or whose payment is only “released” once fees have been paid. Three steps therefore belong in every sale, no matter how short the time.
Written contract. In Switzerland, a car purchase is valid even if agreed orally, because the law prescribes no form (Art. 11 CO). But then little can be proven. Record the price, mileage, known defects and the date and time of the handover, in two signed copies. That way there is proof of when the car was no longer with you.
Check the payment. Car and money are exchanged at the same time, one in return for the other (Art. 184 para. 2 CO). An instant bank transfer is credited within seconds, around the clock and on weekends too. So you can check receipt in your own e-banking right away; a screenshot from the buyer proves nothing.
Deregistration. License plates are issued to you, not to the car. If you register another car within the next 14 days, you keep them; otherwise they go back to the road traffic office (Art. 74 VZV). The vehicle registration document of the sold car is canceled. If the buyer takes care of the deregistration, that belongs in the contract. The guide Deregistering your car after the sale explains the process.

Private buyers often pay the most but need time: viewing the car, taking a test drive, arranging financing, organizing insurance. Dealers and car buyers decide faster because they buy on their own account and plan for the resale; in return, they factor work and risk into the price. If you buy your next car from a garage, a trade-in is, according to the TCS, the easiest route and takes very little time, but financially it is worse than a private sale. Only you can judge what a week gained is worth to you. The guide The season for selling cars shows whether the time of year works in your car’s favor.
Payment has become faster too. According to SIX, since August 20, 2024, the financial institutions that handle more than 95 percent of customer payments have been able to receive instant payments; from the end of 2026, the remaining banks must be able to do so too. Depending on the time of day and the day of the week, an ordinary transfer is only credited after hours, the next day or even later. So if you hand over the car just before the weekend, with an instant payment you don’t have to wait until Monday for your money.

With us, it usually takes 24 to 48 hours from the offer to the handover. How quickly the offer arrives is partly up to you: the more complete your details and photos, the fewer follow-up questions there are. We can’t promise a fixed deadline in hours, because the appointment also has to suit you. If you list the car privately, you can’t plan how long it will take, because that depends on demand for exactly this car.
Not because of the hurry itself, but because of the route it suggests. A private buyer often pays more than a dealer or car buyer, but you can’t find one to order. Anyone who buys on their own account factors in reconditioning, risk and margin. Our offer is based on your details and photos and still stands at the handover if they are accurate. Get it early: as long as there are days left, you can compare it with a listing or a trade-in offer.
For the offer, the details in the form, photos of your car and a photo of the vehicle registration document are enough. For the handover, you then need the original vehicle registration document, all the keys and the service booklet, if you have one. Without the previous vehicle registration document, no buyer can register the car in their name. If you can’t find it, first order a duplicate from the road traffic office of your canton, because it can take days to reach you.
Yes, but not on your own. With a leased car, the leasing company is the owner; the vehicle registration document therefore usually contains Code 178, and the car can only be transferred with the company’s consent. Ask for the settlement amount right away so that you have it when the offer comes; more on this on the page Sell a leased car. An inherited car belongs to all the heirs jointly, and they can only sell it together. According to the TCS, the road traffic office requires, among other things, a death certificate and a certificate of inheritance for the transfer. The guide Selling an inherited car explains what to clarify first.
No. A fresh MFK is not a requirement for the sale; it mainly makes the car more attractive to private buyers. You still shouldn’t ignore the notice: if you don’t comply with it without sufficient reason, your vehicle registration document is withdrawn (Art. 106 VZV). Sell the car before the appointment or ask your road traffic office whether it can be postponed. We also buy cars without a valid MFK; the guide Selling a car without MFK explains what applies.
Count back from your departure date. Request the offer as soon as your date is fixed and tell us until when you still need the car; we then agree together on when you hand it over. The money arrives in your Swiss account at the handover, and we take care of the deregistration at the road traffic office. Afterwards, report the sale to your insurer. If you take the car with you instead, you clarify import and registration with the authorities of your new country.
