Sell your Mercedes: what counts with the brand with the star

At the end of September 2025, 368’840 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars were registered in Switzerland, as figures from the Federal Statistical Office show. Only VW is more common. If you want to sell your Mercedes here, you are dealing with a large market. Just over 60 percent of these cars are less than ten years old, and around 36’000 are 20 years old or older. The range extends from the almost new SUV to the youngtimer, and with such a common brand, your car is rarely the only one of its kind on the market. That makes an exact description all the more important.

With Mercedes, much of this is in the model designation. A “d” stands for diesel, an “e” for plug-in hybrid, “de” for the plug-in hybrid with a diesel engine. “4MATIC” means all-wheel drive, and electric models usually carry “EQ” in their name, from the EQA to the GLC with EQ Technology. “AMG Line” is a trim level, whereas a Mercedes-AMG is a model in its own right. A C 220 d 4MATIC station wagon (T-Modell) and a C 200 sedan are both called C-Class, yet for buyers they are two different cars.

So copy the designation word for word from the vehicle registration document and add the first registration, mileage and equipment. With your photos and a copy of the document, we use this to calculate a firm offer. It applies if the car matches your details at the handover – there is then no renegotiation.

How we buy your Mercedes in four steps

  1. 1

    Request a non-binding offer

Enter your vehicle details in our online form. Your advantage: with just a few details, you get a very accurate initial offer (in practice often accurate to within +/- 1’000 CHF), because we use real market data.

  2. 2

Send photos & vehicle registration document

Send us photos of your car and your vehicle registration document conveniently online. This allows a precise assessment without you losing time on appointments.

  3. 3

    Get a guaranteed offer

Based on your photos, you receive a firm, guaranteed offer – conveniently online, with no on-site viewing appointments. No renegotiation, 100% transparent.

  4. 4

    Vehicle handover & payment

When you hand over the Mercedes, we check it against what you wrote and photographed: model, mileage, equipment, condition. For this, have the vehicle registration document, all keys, the service booklet or the digital service records and, for EQ and plug-in models, the charging cables ready. If everything matches, we pay by instant bank transfer. We then deregister the vehicle at the road traffic office; you don’t have to do anything else.

How you get your money

Right at handover, with no waiting.

Instant bank transfer Recommended

We transfer the purchase price during the handover itself. The money is usually in your account within seconds, secure and traceable.

Cash payment

For smaller amounts, for example for export vehicles, we can also pay in cash on request.

Generation, drive, equipment: how your Mercedes is classified

Model series and generation. Mercedes-Benz renews its lineup in quick succession: since 2025, the Swiss importer has presented the new CLA, the electric GLC and the electric GLB, and in 2026 the new GLA and the revised C-Class. For the valuation, it therefore matters which generation you drive. The first registration and the model designation clarify this.

Engine and drive. Just over a third of all Mercedes cars on Swiss roads have a diesel engine (36.8 percent, FSO 2025, including diesel hybrids). A peculiarity of the brand is plug-in hybrids with a diesel engine: of 3’094 such passenger cars in Switzerland, 2’414 bear the star. Which engine is under the hood and whether your car has 4MATIC therefore belong in the request. For the high-voltage battery of EQ models and plug-in hybrids, Mercedes-Benz issues a battery certificate; its term and mileage limit depend on the model and year of manufacture.

Equipment and documents. Lines such as AMG Line, Avantgarde or Exclusive are on the equipment list, not in the vehicle registration document; mention them explicitly. If your Mercedes was delivered new by a Swiss Mercedes-Benz partner, it usually comes with the Mercedes-Swiss-Integral (MSI) service package. Whether it is still running on your car depends on age and mileage; every Mercedes-Benz partner knows the conditions.

What to enter in the form

  • Model designation as in the vehicle registration document, for example “GLC 220 d 4MATIC”
  • First registration, mileage, last MFK (vehicle inspection)
  • Trim level and packages as in the equipment list
  • Service booklet or digital service records, last service
  • Delivered new in Switzerland or imported
  • For EQ and plug-in hybrids: battery certificate and charging cables

Mercedes-Benz in Swiss statistics

Around one in thirteen passenger cars in Switzerland is a Mercedes-Benz: 368’840 out of 4.84 million, or 7.6 percent (FSO, vehicle stock on September 30, 2025). The share is highest in Basel-Stadt at 10.6 percent and in Zug at 10.1 percent. For new cars, auto-schweiz counted 19’101 registrations for the brand in 2025: 8.2 percent of the market and fourth place behind VW, Škoda and BMW. The most registered Mercedes was the GLC with 4’299 units, the third most popular model overall, ahead of the A-Class (2’096), GLA (2’041) and GLE (1’574).

It wasn’t always like this. From 2015 to 2017, the C-Class led the brand’s statistics, in 2015 also with 4’299 registrations; in 2025 there were only 1’091. So if you sell a C-Class from those years today, there are many similar cars alongside yours. For older vehicles with high mileage or without an MFK, export is often an option: Sell your car for export explains the process.

What determines the value of your car?

The most important factors in a vehicle valuation:

  • Make & model

Premium brands hold their value better

  • Mileage

    The lower, the more valuable

  • Features & engine

High-end features and a powerful engine increase the value

  • Technical condition

Body, engine and transmission are assessed individually

Frequently asked questions about selling your Mercedes

How much is my Mercedes worth?

That can only be said reliably once the model series, engine, first registration, mileage, equipment and condition are known. Added to this is how many similar cars are currently on the market. A price range for “the” Mercedes would therefore not be serious. Fill in the form, and we will value exactly your model based on current market prices. We explain how a valuation comes about under How much is my car worth?.

Do you also buy a Mercedes diesel with high mileage?

Yes, we buy diesel models at any mileage, from the A-Class to the S-Class. More than one in three Mercedes cars on Swiss roads has a diesel engine. For the offer, we need the mileage and details of the services and the last MFK; it’s best to describe any outstanding repairs right away too. More on this case: Sell a high-mileage car.

Does it matter whether my Mercedes has 4MATIC?

Yes, so state it. Four in ten passenger cars in Switzerland have all-wheel drive (39.7 percent, FSO 2025), and among new cars it is just over half. At Mercedes-Benz, 4MATIC is in the model designation; on the GLC generation introduced in 2022, it is standard. If this information is missing, we might compare your car with the wrong vehicles.

Can I sell a leased Mercedes?

Yes, together with the leasing company: the car belongs to it until the lease is settled, and if the vehicle registration document contains Code 178, a change of ownership is blocked without its consent. According to the importer, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Schweiz AG offers leasing and financing for Mercedes-Benz; the same applies with any other company. You need the remaining term and the settlement amount. How the settlement and the payout fit together is explained here: Sell a leased car.

How do I sell a Mercedes EQ or a plug-in hybrid?

Like any other Mercedes, with three additions: the battery certificate for the high-voltage battery, the charging cables and the Mercedes me account, from which you remove the vehicle at the handover. The FSO counts just over 11’000 fully electric Mercedes-Benz cars on the road (2025), so the used car market for them is still young. Our article Selling an electric car summarizes what counts regarding battery, range and charging power.

Do you also take AMG models and old Mercedes cars?

Yes. Under the Mercedes-AMG brand alone, the Federal Statistical Office lists 4’941 passenger cars (2025). State the power level, optional extras and any modifications. Age is no obstacle either: 10’752 Mercedes cars on the road are 30 years old or older. With such cars, details of the history, overhauls and the last MFK help – and lots of photos.
